606HL Three Stars Empty 606HL Three Stars

Post by Azzy Luongo Thu Dec 16, 2010 2:07 am

Season 2 of the 606HL kicked off last night - here are your 606HL Three Stars of the Night:

FIRST STAR
606HL Three Stars Dd10
DREW DOUGHTY
(Vancouver Schmucks)

Doughty potted one goal and four assists to take an early lead in league scoring; he laid down a team-leadng 7 hits, as well as posting a +2 rating.

SECOND STAR
606HL Three Stars Mg10
MIKE GREEN
(Iowa Chops)

Green scored three times, twice on the PP, and added an assist, 6 hits and a +1 rating. Green truly is one of the top D men in the 606HL.

THIRD STAR
606HL Three Stars Br10
BOBBY RYAN
(Chatham Victory)

Two goals, one assist and +1 in 15mins of ice-time - and his team still lost 4-3 in OT. Would have been 1st star if he didn't look like Rufus Sewell Shocked

Honorable mentions:
Vancouver Schmucks goalie Chris Mason posted two wins with a 34-save shutout to help the Schmucks to the top of the standings; Scott Gomez posted 3 assists in a St Louis Spirit defeat; Owen Nolan posted 2-1-3 for the Watford Capitals as they began the season with a win; Fumblesaurus Rex went 3-for-3 in the shootout; Martin St Louis took 15 shots over two games, and scored in both (proof that shooting the puck DOES get you goals); Pavel Kubina gets an early nomination for the Jean Beliveau Trophy:

3:38 of 3rd period - Shot by Drew Stafford.
3:38 of 3rd period - Shot Blocked by Pavel Kubina.
3:40 of 3rd period - Shot by Milan Michalek.
3:40 of 3rd period - Shot Blocked by Pavel Kubina.
3:42 of 3rd period - Shot by Alexander Edler.

3:44 of 3rd period - Stopped by Niklas Backstrom with a rebound.
3:46 of 3rd period - Shot by Alexander Edler.
3:46 of 3rd period - Shot Blocked by Pavel Kubina.
Dishonorable mentions:
Tomas Kaberle, Loui Eriksson, Matt Carkner, Fernando Pisani and Nick Foligno all posted -3s for Forerunners; Moose Jaw Giraffes goaltender Craig Anderson currently sports a 20.00 GAA after being demolished by the Schmucks; are the New York City Crunch fast becoming the 606HL's answer to Laurel and Hardy?

0:36 of 2nd period - Shot by Martin Havlat.
0:36 of 2nd period - Shot Misses the Net.
0:38 of 2nd period - Shot by Travis Zajac.
0:38 of 2nd period - Shot Misses the Net.

8:51 of 2nd period - Stopped by Miikka Kiprusoff without a rebound.
Did you know?:
The Stevenage Beefs raised their banner in celebration of their Season 1 playoff win - Sean Avery climbed rafters and ripped the banner down, before Mighty Greg Zanon grabbed him and beat the stink out of him. Hand up who wants to win this season... cheers

Nice one Azzy (even with the Vancouver bias)!!!!!

Thanks for the mention...thought Gomez did well as he is only a 2nd ine centre.

I thought on first glance that Bobby Ryan looked very much like Stuart Broad.

Doesn't Mike Green look slightly boss eyed and very much like the genetic throwbacks you find in Norfolk (not that I would tell him so to his face)....Does anyone know if he has six fingers and webbed feet?????
Very Happy Very Happy

Pfft. Lucky.

Anyway, I am happy. 2 games, 2 teams who finished above me, and won one, and ran the other close. The Choppies are improving.

Also, Green has been robbed. 3 goals in 2 games from a d-man? More impressive than 1+4 Wink

Here are your 606HL Three Stars of the Night:

FIRST STAR
606HL Three Stars Rn10
RICK NASH
(Bearded Badgers)

Against the 606HL's best team, Nash potted two goals and two assists for a huge four-point game. Added to a +4 rating, Nash had one of the best nights in 606HL history; he then added a further assist against the Victory.

SECOND STAR
606HL Three Stars Em10
EVGENI MALKIN
(Bearded Badgers)

Upstaged by his teammate Nash, Geno notched a pair plus one assist for a three-point game, sharing Nash's +4 rating, while potting another goal against the Victory.

THIRD STAR
606HL Three Stars Cd10
CHRIS DRURY
(St Louis Spirit)

Drury had a hand in the Spirit's first three goals, scoring the first and the eventual GWG, as the Spirit finally nailed their first victory of the season.

Honorable mentions:
Henrik Sedin notched a goal and three assists as the Penguins beat the Chops; three-point nights aplenty - besides those above, Chris Pronger, Loui Eriksson, Patrice Bergeron, Corey Perry, Martin Havlat and Niklas Hagman; Eric Staal, Ryan Kesler and Thomas Fleischmann are on 3-game goal streaks; Cam Ward and Tomas Vokoun are 3-for-3 so far this season.

Dishonorable mentions:
Kris Letang was ejected from the Capitals-Crunch game after hitting Crunch forward Andrew Ebbett; Brent Seabrook of the Cherrypickers suffered the same fate for unsportsmanlike conduct; Miikka Kipprusoff was pulled by the Stevenage Beefs after conceding 4 goals on 14 shots.

Did you know?:
Wales Whales forward Unknown Player posted an astonishing -5 rating in 0mins of ice time; word is that he will be benched for the next game...

Er excuse me but Bobby Ryan does so not look like Rufus Sewell. (Yes, Rufus is on my 'cor I don't half fancy him' list.)

And Savvy has scored a goal! And Krejci has had a fight (didn't think he knew how). unfortunately the good Carey Price has turned up for the Habs. And I've just got back from the pub.

Off to New OrleANS IN the mornign. hope it's waRMER THAN OT is here. drunken

Here are your 606HL Three Stars of the Night:

FIRST STAR
606HL Three Stars Mm10
MILAN MICHALEK
(Stevenage Beefs)

Michalek had a HUGE night, potting 2 goals plus 3 assists in the Beefs' big win over the Chops. He added a +4 rating to that - as well as a goal, an assist and a +1 rating in the Beefs' preceding match. 3 goals, 4 assists and a +5 = one of the best nights ever for any 606HL player.

SECOND STAR
606HL Three Stars Ik10
ILYA KOVALCHUK
(Duck a'lorange)

Two goals in two games may not appear spectacular, especially with one being a defeat. But add in two fights from the elite Russian sniper - neither lost - and it was a big night for the wee man. No wonder he's smiling! cyclops

THIRD STAR
606HL Three Stars Dh10
DANY HEATLEY
(Stevenage Beefs)

A hat-trick against the Ducks and one more against the Chops gave Heater a 4-goal night, added to a modest +3 rating.

Honorable mentions:
Greg Zanon matched the 606HL record with a +5 rating against the Chops; repeat alert - Ilya Kovalchuk did NOT get pasted by Craig Rivet, holding his own in a drawn fight; Jamie Langenbrunner, Simon Gagne and Tom Gilbert all posted 3 assists; the Ducks and Crunch really don't like each other - 78 PIMS in their game, including this amazing sequence (which included Kovalchuk's second fight in two games):

0:29 of 2nd period - James Neal wins face-off versus Pavel Datsyuk in Duck a l'orange zone.
0:37 of 2nd period - Sheldon Souray and Ilya Kovalchuk fight to a draw.
0:37 of 2nd period - Penalty to Sheldon Souray for Fighting.
0:37 of 2nd period - Penalty to Ilya Kovalchuk for Fighting.
0:37 of 2nd period - Corey Perry and Pavel Datsyuk fight to a draw.
0:37 of 2nd period - Penalty to Corey Perry for Fighting.
0:37 of 2nd period - Penalty to Pavel Datsyuk for Fighting.
0:37 of 2nd period - Penalty to Corey Perry for instigated a fight.
0:37 of 2nd period - Corey Perry is ejected from game.
0:37 of 2nd period - James Neal and Scott Niedermayer fight to a draw.
0:37 of 2nd period - Penalty to James Neal for Fighting.
0:37 of 2nd period - Penalty to Scott Niedermayer for Fighting.
0:37 of 2nd period - Minor Penalty to Pavel Kubina for Roughing.
0:37 of 2nd period - Minor Penalty to Patrik Elias for Roughing.
0:37 of 2nd period - Double Minor Penalty to Anze Kopitar for Slashing.
Dishonorable mentions:
In a big rivalry match-up, the Iowa Chops were diced by the Beefs, 7-2; Roberto Luongo continued his recent poor form by letting in 4 goals on 13 shots, while every single Chop posted a minus rating; Craig Rivet did NOT beat Ilya Kovalchuk in their fight; Jan Hejda was ejected from the Moose Jaw Giraffes defeat to the Rex; Corey Perry was ejected from that Crunch-Ducks game, and picked up a suspension for his fight instigator penalty.

Did you know?:
606HL Commissioner MC Homer is considering spinning his Wheel of Justice to decide the punishments for Craig Rivet and Sheldon Souray, who were both unable to defeat renowned pugilist Ilya Kovalchuk. Souray may be spared punishment, as the commish was just glad to see Souray leave a fight WITHOUT a broken hand...

Here are your 606HL Three Stars of the Night:

FIRST STAR
606HL Three Stars Rl10
ROBERTO LUONGO
(Iowa Chops)

2 wins, including a 37-save shutout and a big 8-3 win against rivals NYC Crunch, gave Bobby Lou a bounce-back night.

SECOND STAR
606HL Three Stars Dg10
DENIS GREBESHKOV
(Moose Jaw Giraffes)

Grebeshkov scored twice on the PP and assisted on Alex Semin's GWG (also his 1st of the season), to give the Giraffes a 4-2 win over the Crunch.

THIRD STAR
606HL Three Stars Zp10
ZACH PARISE
(McGuire's Monsters)

Two goals, one assist and a +4 rating - another big night for the youngster.

Honorable mentions:
Francois Beauchemin scored twice for DLMS against the Schmucks; Marc Savard put up 3 more assists, continuing his hot hand; shutouts for Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers (22 saves) and Manny Legace (23 saves); Nicklas Backstrom saved 38 of 39 shots for the Crunch; the Iowa Chops scored 5 1st-period goals, including two in th first 38 seconds of the game, to race past the Crunch; the Monsters had a 5-goal 3rd period, and scored 6 on just 22 shots.

Dishonorable mentions:
Three teams went 0-for-7 on the PP - the Shamrocks, Penguins and Schmucks; Erik Ersberg relieved Ilya Bryzgalov but was yanked after letting in 3 goals on just 6 shots; in a rowdy game, Steve Montador took 5 minor penalties and Marc Staal took four, as the KoC and Sharks got down and dirty - maybe the Sharks were angry that they let KoC tie the game with 30 seconds left in regular time:

0:52 of 1st overtime period - Ryane Clowe and Mike Fisher fight to a draw.
0:52 of 1st overtime period - Penalty to Ryane Clowe for Fighting.
0:52 of 1st overtime period - Penalty to Mike Fisher for Fighting.
0:52 of 1st overtime period - Minor Penalty to Chris Phillips for Roughing.
0:52 of 1st overtime period - Minor Penalty to Steven Reinprecht for Cross-checking.
0:52 of 1st overtime period - Minor Penalty to Andrei Markov for High sticking.
0:52 of 1st overtime period - Minor Penalty to Anton Babchuk for Slashing.
0:52 of 1st overtime period - Minor Penalty to Kyle Quincey for Hooking.
Did you know?:
The Vancouver Canucks suck. They have just this second had their first shot in 12 minutes against the Leafs Evil or Very Mad .

But as I post this - Burrows. Wooooooooooo! Twisted Evil

Season Leaders:

3pts - Drew Doughty
3pts - Milan Michalek
3pts - Rick Nash

2pts - Evgeni Malkin
2pts - Ilya Kovalchuk
2pts - Mike Green
