Beefs into first final!
Following on from game 3's injury to Freddy Meyer, GM Homer decided to go a little bit tougher in calling up Deni Jr. Gauthier. For whatever reason the team just failed to click defensively and the Shamrock's avoided the sweep with a 6-3 victory on the back of an unusually shaky game from Kiprusoff.
Kipper who had only allowed 13 goals in 9 games coming into the contest, managed only 8 saves on 12 shots before being pulled 1.06 before the first intermission. Elliott came in and allowed a further 2 goals on the 14 shots he faced on a night where the defence seemingly could not get a break. Miller on the other hand was very strong saving 31 of 34 shots.
Most of the damage in this game was caused from the point as Mark Streit scored a hat trick in a 8 minute span which included 2 power play goals.
Following this result, GM Homer decided he would give Mike Weaver a shot, who at the ripe old age of 30 was set to get his first taste of the pro team. Weaver led the Baby Beefs in scoring putting up 4 points in 6 playoff games. Weaver also finished 4th on the Baby Beefs through the regular season scoring 15 goals and 36 assists in 82 games, he did not disappoint in game 5.
Boston took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a powerplay goal from Jason Arnott but in the 2nd period the Beefs took control on the back of two goals from Curtis Glencross, both of which were assisted on by that man Mike Weaver. Kiprusoff then held the fort the rest of the way and ended with 33 saves on 34 shots to go with 2nd star of the game.
The Beefs get a well earned rest now while we await the conclusion of the KoC and Sharks series after the Sharks extended the series to game 6 on the back of a 4-2 win.
Both of these teams will provide a tough test for the Beefs. The Sharks sport a top line of Raymond (3-9-12), Marleau (5-5-10) and Ovechkin (4-6-10) while the KoC have 2 guys who lead the league in playoff goal scoring in Fisher and Gaborik who have 5 goals each. Also worthy of note is the play of Jonathan Quick who sports a .912 sv% and 2.02 GAA.
