Beefs take game 1

Game 1 was one for the ages, here it is in numbers.

The most important stat of all however was a 3-2 victory for the Beefs.

Going in against a red hot Shamrock's team as the road team was never going to be easy however the Beefs got off to a fast start scoring off their first shot 58 seconds into the game. The game was then fairly quiet for the rest of the first and through the 2nd period with no more scoring and only a 2 min holding penalty for each team.

The third period didn't take too long to begin the action and over a 12 second period saw 4 minor penalties called including 3 for the Shamrock's which put the Beefs on a 4 on 3 PP which Michalek promptly connected on and the Beefs looked to be on their way to a victory. That was until Mark Streit and Stephen Weiss scored twice just under 4 mins apart to pull the Shamrock's level at 2.

That is how regulation ended, next the real fun began. At the 2.04 mark of the first overtime a total of 42 PIM's were handed out as a mass brawl broke out which saw Tom Gilbert ejected from the game. Edler lost to Moreau and Gilbert lost out to Moore who all got majors while Gill, Streit and Guerin all received 2 min roughing minors along with Michalek and Cullen getting slashing and cross checking minors respectively. The period also saw the Beefs outshot 16-5 but Kipper stood tall to keep the Beefs in it.

This set up a chance for the Beefs to take the game and they did just 2.49 into the 2nd OT period, 4 seconds after a roughing minor to Moreau expired.

The Shamrock's will be looking to bounce back tomorrow night so the Beefs will have to be on top of their game and will be looking to take a commanding 2-0 lead back home with them.
