Beefs clawing their way back into contention
After an absolutely horrid start, the Beefs have slowly but surely started to turn things around. Things are still not perfect but they have pulled themselves to within a win of 500 hockey and currently sit 6th in the power rankings. They also currently sit in a playoff spot although all the teams below have games in hand.
Much of the turn around can be credited to a balanced scoring across all the key guys and the goalies starting to put up better numbers than they had been. Eriksson has found his groove and sits on 28 points in 20 games but best of all, he has a team leading +13 on a team where most are languishing around the even mark.
The kids coming up have also been spectacular. Nugent Hopkins has 11 points in 12 games with the big club and Jamie Benn has 7 (6 of them goals) in 7 games in his injury call up time covering for Oscar Moller. Benn is likely to see most of his time with the Baby Beefs for this season but it looks like Nugent Hopkins is here to stay.
Down in the farm things continue to roll with Skinner picking up Nuge's roll as the top centre and leading the teams in points while new guys Noebels and Oleksiak have been stellar. Noebels in his first season has 9 goals and 10 assists to leave him just shy of a point per game but is second on the team in points and co-leads the team with +14. Oleksiak alsohas a good +11 to go with 14 points in 20 games giving the D a further shot in the arm. Currently 3 of the top 7 point scorers on the team are defenders.
The season still has a long way to go but with the Baby Beefs continued regular season form and the Beefs showing signs of turning it all around, the future is looking a lot better than it was a few weeks ago.
