Seeing as the year was 1972, I'm going to say he made his debut during the Stanley Cup finals.

Ding! He made his debut and only appearance during the winning game of the SC Finals.

Hmm, I'd say Driz and I shared that one. Anyway, here's a nice easy one.
There are two former Hartford Whalers players still playing in the NHL. Who are they?

Jane, far too easy. Chris Pronger and, err oh hang on. Not so easy. I need someone old. Detroit old. Selanne? Did he play for them? Maybe - I'll go Pronger and Selanne

One out of two there Mr Giraffe. The delectable Chris Pronger is indeed an ex-Whaler.

Nope. He was drafted by the Whalers but never actually played for them. And was their last ever draft pick.
And I love the way Leafy has split old into "old" and "Detroit old"

Please Miss, I know, I know. Jean Sebastian Giguere? Wasn't he drafted the year after Pronger?

Yes! Give that giraffe a coconut. Giggy was a Whaler.
Pronger drafted in '93
Jeff O'Neil drafted in '94
Giggy drafted in '95
(you can tell I work with a Whalers fan can't you?)

I'm assuming this isn't a trick question and it's not Wayne Gretzky?

Indeed it isn't a trick question. Mr Gretzky played in the WHA and therefore the NHL deemed he wasn't a rookie. Therefore not eligible for the Calder.

No, he only had one in his entire career. I'm guessing Theo Fleury

I'm in two minds now the Flyers have been mentioned, but I'm going to stick with my original thought of Brendan Shanahan
