$7m for 1 year. Maybe with his bongos and baby Bieber they can do a duet?

That contract is the worst one offered this off-season.

Good to know eklund was on form on this one.

ON Semin...

I am hearing more regarding Alex Semin every day and tonight the latest has this as a two-way battle between NJ and Pitt. One source I really trust believes NJ is the leading candidate now

lol! That is awesome. As for the contract, I agree its silly money but I think it is a very good move by Carolina. It is low risk as they can walk away next summer if it doesn't work but if it does then it gives them a pretty potent set of forwards. Staal-Staal-Semin could be pretty lethal.

Buff.....it was rather slow wasn't it!

The thing is I think Semin is using the Canes as a shop window. If he has a good season I don't see him resigning there but trying to make a move to a contender.

Yes the game was awful- I don't think I have ever seen a crowd get bored of doing the Mexican wave after 24 minutes!!

He might well be but if that helps deliver the Canes another playoff spot and a potential run then I am sure they would consider it money well spent.

I agree, but I don't think the Canes are so naive that they don't realise this. Signing a player that's looking to impress the big contenders is not a bad thing!

Don't get me wrong the 1 year deal is good for both sides but the Canes have def overpaid at $7m, but then if you have the cap the spare why not use it. Not going to lie I would have taken Semin in a second though I would have only offered him $4-5m, he definitely got a great deal out of this.

Definitely overpaid I will not try to deny that just don't understand the sentiment many people seem to share that this was the worst contract ever.

Edit: Not saying you said that Buff just putting it out there Smile

It isn't just Jonzee though, feelings on Twitter seem to be very mixed on it.

What do you mean last night? It's the third post in this thread.

7 mil for an average player. You would think the Rangers had signed him.

In a way its quite good for the league that some of the lesser teams have been active in the off season. Hopefully more teams will be competitive which can only make the league better. Had the big teams snapped up the likes of suter, parise and weber surely all we would have got are the same teams as usual competing in the playoffs!

My initial reaction, last night, was - madness!

On reflection, I can only assume that it the going rate to convince a player to move to Cletusville!!

No way that $7m is worth it. Semin may be low risk at 1-year, but that's a lot of money for a 1-year tester.

Indeed it is but even with that contract they are about $13m under the cap.....what use is cap space if it goes unused?

Canes with Semin are a lot more dangerous than Canes without him.
