Re: MLB Thread
It feels weird to say we had a better season than the Red Sox but that our season was still crud. Weird, but happy.

Apparently the Cubs season has been so shitty, you could have got a pair of tickets to their penultimate game at Wrigley for 38 cents on StubHub.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have had 20 consecutive losing seasons.

Wow. That is seriously crap. Supporting them must be like being a Leafs fan.
Could be worse though. Isn't Cleveland the city with the least successful sports teams with no trophy in anything for getting on for 50 years?

Oi. We had a winning season in 2010-2011, thank you.

Re: MLB Thread
The Pirates were well on course for an atleast .500 record over a month ago.
The Braves have got a one game playoff with the Cardinals on Friday. Come on Braves, do it for Chipper!
CJ - San Diego's sports history is equally as horrible as Cleveland's.

Those one game playoffs are real nailbiters. Good luck to the Braves. A mate of mine is a fan so I'll be cheering for them.

Re: MLB Thread
And they're headed to the bottom of the 8th. Hamilton the last out of the top half and it's still 8-5 A's, Texas has Beltre 3-3 1 RBI, Cruz 2-4 1 run and Young 1-4 1 RBI 1 run, up in the 9th followed by Murohy who's 2-4 with 2 RBIs and 1 run.
Re: MLB Thread
End of 8th. 12-5 A's, Norris lead off HR, Pennington strikeout, 2 walks (Crisp & Cespedes) either side of Drew reaching on a Kinsler error to load bases with 1 out, Moss 3 RBI double to right centre 1 out, Reddick fly out Moss still at 2nd 2 outs, Donaldson strikeout.
Texas lead 5-1 after the 3rd. Can you say choke?

Red Sox are getting their arses kicked. It's 9-1 in the 6th. I think we're probably seeing Bobby Valentine's last game as Red Sox manager.

Re: MLB Thread
Well that'll teach me for dissing the Red Sox; I've won a raffle at work and the prize is tickets to a game next season.

I would suggest selling them but you would probably make a loss

To a game? Any game in particular, or do you get to choose?

It will be a particular game, but not one decided by me. I just hope it's in July or August so there's a chance of decent weather.
I was actually hoping to win tickets to see the Patriots in December so that I could give them to Mr C for his birthday. (I'm such a cheapskate).

Re: MLB Thread
Well that was a bit of a dull old World Series. The San Francisco Giants swept the Detroit Tigers.
The highlight for me (and my inner 12-year old) was the pitcher called Bumgarner. It's impossible to say his name without sniggering. I do hope he ends up on the same team as Pujols one day.
And it's a crappy trophy too. "Like trying to handle a set of golf clubs" was one description I read.

MLB play-offs are too short. Three weeks? Hell a decent series takes almost as long in the NHL!

Re: MLB Thread
The Blue Jays are about to become very good and competitive. Marlins fans must be pissed big time. But I couldn't give any shits, now they know how bad management decisions make us Mets fans feel.

There is no *I will hold judgement smiley*
I don't follow MLB enough to know much about the prospects that have gone the other way but apparently they have a lot of potential.
I think this makes Toronto competitive in the AL East now but by no means do I think we just traded ourselves in to a play-off spot.

They're really going for it aren't they? I'm now hoping my free tickets are for a Blue Jays game.

Do Boston play KC or Pittsburgh at Fenway next season?

Re: MLB Thread
They have a three game series with KC staring on April 19th.
I don't think they'll play Pittsburgh in regular season games because I can't recall the last time any team from either of those divisions (AL East and NL Central) played each other. The majority of AL vs NL games are geographical rivalries like the Mets-Yankees, Pittsburgh is smack bang between Baltimore and Cleveland but I don't know if the Pirates fans feel the same as they would as Steelers fans, and for KC it's St Louis.
