Beefs enjoy record breaking night
A huge night offensively saw the Beefs set a new franchise record with 8 goals against the Crunch last night. Backes and Heatley were the catalysts putting up 4 points each and there were 7 goal scorers in total with Vernace being the only player to pot 2. The young defender had been in a slight slump recently after an outstanding start to the season but broke out again last night scoring his 2 goals off of just 3 shots and is fighting his corner in the rookie of the year consideration against some strong competition. Vernace sits 3rd in rookie point scoring and 1st for goals while all of his rivals for the title are forwards.
Heatleys recent hot streak has seen him move up into a tie for 2nd in the league for points score and with Backes just 1 point back of that the Beefs are showing a level of offence that hasn't been seen in a long time. Kiprusoff was once again showing signs of his MVP season stopping 29 of 31 shots to keep him in the league lead for both save% and GAA. Also his 12 wins are just 3 back from the league lead in 9 fewer games.
Things are looking very good in Beefland at the moment as the team puts up a 2-0-0 start on this 4 game road trip. Up next are the Derby Ice Dogs who have only 1 win in their last 9 games and have really struggled to score goals. Offensive dynamo Marian Gaborik has been very quiet putting up only 16 points so far. Following that the Beefs round off the trip with another visit to Crunch who will no doubt be looking for revenge and with the league leaders in goals, assists and points don't expect them to go down so easy next time around.
In farm news, the Baby Beefs have hit a bit of a slump going 1-2-1 in their last 4 and have only managed 5 goals which has been way below their 3.13 average goals per game on the season. The goalies have only allowed 4 goals in the last 3 but have not been getting the goal support so look out for any shake ups that may occur.
