I noticed Lack getting more and more ice time, but didn't really expect them to get rid of Lu after Schneider went in the summer.

This makes less sense than the Halak/Miller trade.

Is there a competition amongst the western Canadian teams to see who can have the worst goaltenders?

Florida are now rocking Tim Thomas and Roberto Luongo.

Much as though they're impressive, and 'deep playoff' goalies, they can't be on small contracts. Lu definitely isn't.

Are the Panthers a bit goalie-heavy now?

Florida really doesn't need them.
They are 15th (you can't even be 15th in the Western Conference!) and are not heading to the play-offs.
Lu has a contract until he is 65yo!

Luongo is gonna retire next year and stiff Van with a massive cap hit for the next century.

What? Surely if he retires he is doing over the Panthers?

I can't remember the exact parameters of the rule but on those silly long deals, if the player retires early the team that signed him gets stuck with the cap hit.
