I have not sampled a double down. They were not on sale when I was there.Calamity Jane wrote:No votes for the KFC Double Down then?

Re: Most enjoyed USA food
I had the misfortune of eating a XXL Chalupa from Taco Bell as part of a challenge. You'd thing at 28 and 30 me and my friend would be passed such childishness, but no. Not only was the challenge to see who could eat a whole one, but more importantly who finished first.
Although I won, I also lost, as I spent that whole evening on the crapper. Luckily they had two toilets as my friend wasn't much better. Those things should come with a warning.

You english and your fancy breakfast. Ulster is the best form of breakfast fry up. It's like an english breakfast without all the fancy tomatoes and mushrooms and crap. Its just meat, beans and soda bread which is the greatest kind of bread.
In America at the moment, loving the food but rather than any specific place or type I think the best part about the food is portion size vs price. While quality is a constantly shifting variable based on where you go America destroys on size of portions. I don't think I've been to a restaurant here yet that hasn't required a little extra effort to get through the meal.

Yes, but are the huge sized portions a good thing? It might be a novelty for a tourist but for the country's citizens I'd suggest no and it goes a long way to explaining why a lot of Americans are chronically over weight and therefore terribly unhealthy.

Definitely Ronnie but as you say it is fun for us tourists to enjoy briefly lol. To quote one of my American friends.... "Americans don't understand moderation when it comes to food!"
Re: Most enjoyed USA food
I had just over 2 weeks there, and added half a stone to by weight.
I've been home for 6 weeks, and I've lost 2 of those 6 pounds, so at the moment I'm still carrying what my girlfriend calls 'the pancake baby'.

I have to know how much I weigh so I can shout it at people who I check on the ice.
"You just got steamrolled by 200 pounds of Northumberland metal....BITCH!"
Ok, I don't really do that, but when you have electronic scales, and they're right there in the bathroom, next to the sink, then it's tough not to stand on them and weigh yourself...and then weigh yourself holding the dog and work out how much the dog weighs, just for the hell of it... then the dog and a lamp, then the dog gets bored and tries to bite you. Me holding a lamp and fighting off a dog that is trying to bite me, weighs 311 pounds. I would have discovered more, but I was late for work, and covered in fur and scratches.

OK - a mix of USA / Canada from me....First off and most important.... Steam Whistle Pilsner from T.O. Then, in no particular order, Butterfingers, the snickers in the yellow wrappers (is it peanut butter?), sour patch kids, anything from Timmys and the beer cans eg Bud Premium, Bud with lime etc sold at Duane Reade all over NYC - absolutely massive and surprisingly cheap!!!!! And Geoffrey's pancakes for breakfast from Pimbletts B&B in Toronto!!!!

I can get most of these at a premium from specialist shops.
Who said Twizzlers? Mr C and get through those at an alarming rate.
OK just checking I've not missed anything off my list off stuff to bring back from the UK when I return next week. Need to add Quavers and Soreen. The sniffer dog at heathrow is going to have a field-day with my suitcase.

I tried this delicacy the other day, and I have to say bleurgh. Seriously, stick to the Tetleys and leave this God-forsaken tat to some inbred clown from Norfolk (the strange bit in England, not the place in Virginia)

Way better than Dr Pepper which is totally evil.
I once had a D&B vodka drink in a pub in the Yorkshire Dales. A closer inspection of the label revealed that it had been manufactured and bottled in Estonia. It was an interesting flavour.

D+B is best with Chip shop purchases. Although, if I'm honest, I'm probably favouring the root beer more at the moment.
My mate works on the US Air Base nearby here, and so manages to collect me most things I desire from the supermarket. They also accept dollars as well as pound sterling. I often send him a shopping list over text and he delivers a day or so later.
They only have a Burger King on the base, so there's not a great deal of excitment in going there, apart from the fantastic pizza place and a great bowling alley.

Mr C and I will be in Leeds on Monday and the first thing we're going to do is go to our favourite chippy for fish, chips and curry sauce and a big bottle of D&B.

Curry sauce with chips needs to be banned from this planet forever.
Gravy, however, is perfectly acceptable.

Nothing wrong with a bit of curry sauce! Although gravy does get the upper hand...

Re: Most enjoyed USA food
As Leafy will testify, in the past I have not been adverse to the odd curry, kebab or creamcake...infact i've positively embraced them at times.
Then a couple of months ago, I recieved a letter from my doctor's surgery. Apparently they hadn't 'seen' me for a while, and told me 'it might be a good idea to make an appointment - for a check up'.
Now being of the age that I am, this can only mean one thing - they want to stick a couple of fingers up and tickle my prostate!. As you can imagine, i'm not overly keen on the thought of this...mainly because, if they find nowt wrong with my prostate, they will probably find something else.
Also, if someone is going to stick something into me...then i'm going to want some cold, hard cash in return!.
Subsequently, I have began to look after myself a little more and have begun to eat a lot healthier...so much so that I have lost over a stone in weight.
Now to my dilema...
I want to go to the US....I want to see some hockey. Mrs Driz is not adverse to the idea - as long as she gets a new bathroom and a new heating system in the house.
But...the food...How can I spend a week in the cholesterol capital of the world, where healthy eating appears to begin and end with black coffee without sugar - and not end up in the rubber gloved grip of my doctor!!!

Indeed I can testify to Driz's claims of good eating. I too have lost almost a stone in weight, although I still manage to polish off a tidy amount of beer, kebabs, currys and the occasional Burger King. My doc also want to see me fairly often, although I'm putting that down to the fact she's Dutch, fairly young and not too shabby on the eye, and obviously wants to 'ride the Giraffe'.
Exercise is the key here my elderly friend, I find walking five miles a day, playing squash and generally running from Mrs Giraffe (trust me it's less exercise if I get away ).
As for the chip argument, it is thusly and in order:
Curry sauce
Pepper sauce
Mayonnaise
Gravy
Ketchup
BBQ sauce
Mustard
Salt and Vinegar are a must alongside all above options.

The long-necked quadruped is correct. Exercise is the way to go. I have a treadmill and a cross-trainer in the basement (essential for wusses like me who wimp out if the weather is crap), I use the gym at work and I've started playing badminton again.
Watching hockey while running on the treadmill can be hazardous.
