First Round Predictions

Now I know the regular season finished less than 24 hours ago and that some of us are still mourning, but I can’t wait for the play-offs to start, so here are my first round predictions. As usual I have gone for a few upsets in the hope that if one them comes off I can claim to be a genius. What are you pearls of wisdom?

Caps 4-3 Rangers (Caps to once again take a 3-1 lead, only to receive another pasting from the Rangers and make a hash of the series but just about come through)

Flyers 4-1 Sabres (Miller gets no help from his team and the Flyers easily progress)

Bruins 2-4 Canadiens (Price this time backstopping the Habs to a shock first round win with Pacioretty also helping by taking Chara out of the series with a hideous 'Chris Simon Special')

Penguins 4-1 Lightning (Crosby to annoyingly make a glorious return with the Pens 1-0 down in the series and lead them to the victory)

West:

Canucks 4-2 Blackhawks (Everyone to get excited when the Hawks take a 2-1 lead and question Luongo's nerves, only for the Sedins to destroy Crawford's confidence and leave the Hawks relying on Turco who has one good game then concedes 12 in 2 games)

Sharks 4-0 Kings (Sharks prove everyone wrong for once and batter the Kings with Kyle Wellwood notching 7 goals)

Redwings 4-3 Coyotes (another valiant effort from the Coyotes is not enough to stop Datsyuk and the Redwings)

Ducks 2-4 Predators (Ray Emery is called upon after Hiller gets injured but can only once again put the puck in his own net a la 07 Cup finals and is consequently killed by a furious Teemu Selanne who finally retires and heads to prison)

I hope to god the colonels predictions are correct!

Right, I won't really comment on the East because I don't see too much of the teams but when it comes to the West I'd nail the Sharks as a near certainty over the Kings; the Hawks to put up better opposition than the Stars would have but to still be overwhelmed by the Nucks; the Wings depth and experience to squeeze past the Yotes; and for the Ducks to not get bogged down by the Preds trapping style and also solve Rinne.

I guess looking at it I've played it fairly safe with my predictions as I've picked the top 4 from both conferences to progress. I guess I could see the Yotes upsetting the Wings and the Canadians seeing off the Bruins...

Six out of six so far. Just need the Bruins and Bolts to come good tonight.

Did anyone see that Pens penalty shot the other night? Not quite as good as Kovy's, but still pretty funny. I bet Pete was relieved that we'd all cleared off out of the chat box a few minutes before it happened otherwise I'm sure we'd all have all been laughing and pointing

6 out of 6 right on results. pens and habs wins make it a perfect 8 for 8 for me.
though unfortunately my predictions for events happening over the course of the first round haven't yet occurred...

I can get 7 out of 8 right with Bruins and Penguins wins tonight. And well....I had to back the Ducks really didn't I?!

Im not unhappy with 5 out of 8. Especially as I went against Pittsburgh, Washington and San Jose
