Nabokov saga takes interesting new twist
The Islanders have taken up the extension clause in Nabokov’s contract, meaning he is officially an Islanders player until January next year. However, Nabokov has promised NOT to file a grievance with the NHLPA, on the understanding that he will be allowed to represent Russia in the World Championships.
It appears that Snow is not quite as daft as we thought. He extends the contract, meaning he’s likely to get something relatively worthwhile in trading Nabokov, whilst Nabby gets the chance to raise his profile a bit more in the World Champs. Win for both parties I feel.
Many rumours in the Red Wings camp that we’ll trade Derek Meech and a pick for Nabby.

Why would Russia pick a Goalie who has not been icing?

Not sure, but that as Nabokov's stipulation. He wouldn't argue with the extension if he could play in the WC.
Snow must be doing a jig in his office. He's got a Goalie who is attempting to raise his stock value in the World Champs, and at the same time, has added an extension to the contract to go with him.
Many teams could do with a good goalie at a 570k contract. The Flyers for a start!
