1986 the Oilers win the Presidents’ Trophy
1986 the Oilers don’t win the Stanley Cup
1987 the Oilers win the President’s Trophy
1987 the Oilers win the Stanley Cup
1988 the Flames win the Presidents’ Trophy
1988 the Flames don’t win the Stanley Cup
1989 the Flames win the President’s Trophy
1989 the Flames win the Stanley Cup
1992 the Rangers win the Presidents’ Trophy
1992 the Rangers don’t win the Stanley Cup
1994 the Rangers win the President’s Trophy
1994 the Rangers win the Stanley Cup
1998 the Stars win the Presidents’ Trophy
1998 the Stars don’t win the Stanley Cup
1999 the Stars win the President’s Trophy

The only other teams to have gone on to win the Stanley Cup after winning the President’s Trophy are the Avalanche (2001) and the Red Wings (2002, 2008)- but both had won the cup recently before (Avalanche 1996, Red Wings 1997, 1998).
Vancouver does not fit into either of the above patterns. Perhaps…

They did have the host the Olympic's win the cup thing but that didn't work. Apparently we had the Winter classic win the cup thing though I think that was in the same year and possibly start season in europe win cup thing.

OK so this prediction continues to grow ever stronger.... is it the Canucks year? I think not but you can't argue with the above logic!
