Season 2 review and changes for season 3.
It is getting to that time again where I want to get your opinion on how the sim is running. I will not make threads about each issue just yet but please post all thoughts here on what (if anything) you would like changed.
The key points I would like your opinions on are the following.
If you would like to add anything feel free and if the general consensus is that changes may be needed in any area then I will create a poll to determine how we feel it should be changed.
The key points I would like your opinions on are the following.
- Shots per game
- Goals per game
- Scoring rate (goals to shots ratio)
- Hitting
- PIM's
- Injuries
- Speed of simulations
- Finances

Re: Season 2 review and changes for season 3.
I will get back to you on the other issues Beef but my biggest grip this season was the schedule (no not the fact that our division is rock hard!).
I was for most of the season up to 7-10 games behind the majority of the league. This had a two fold effect:
1. my team couldn't get started at the begging of the season whilst everyone else had got settled in (though this is the only reason for my poor start I will admit)
2. I had to play catch up bunches where I was playing 3 nights in a row or 5 games in 7 days so my team was unfairly disadvantaged knackered from previous encounters
I think this coupled with a difficult enough schedule really did have a big impact on my season. My players were probably fed up to having two weeks off then being told to play Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday night the next week.
If there was some way of evening out the schedule that would be great. I don't know what your felxibililty on all of this is since I realise the sim auto-creates the schedule so this might be a moot point lol!
Thanks again for putting on an other fanatstic season Homer, really appeciate all the effort you put into this and the time you take to gather in and listen to feedback

Re: Season 2 review and changes for season 3.
It does allow me to create my own schedule but to be perfectly honest, I don't have the time nor patience for that!
I created a few last year to try and get a good enough balance and had Pete go over it for any glaring problems and asked if anyone had any problems with it.
I shall do the same this year to try and get it as fair as possible! I don't like having teams with tons of games in hand especially as your farm team looks like they are going to steal a playoff spot from me lol

Fair enough, don't want to make any extra work for you since I know it already takes up a lot of your time. If you want someone to look over the schedule I would be more than happy to do it for you.
And I wouldn't call it stealing, my point % had always been higher than you two I've just never played enough games to catch up

Stealing that is my story and I am sticking by it!
Sure that would help, I will get a few of you to look it over I think.

I think everything has been spot on, with only injuries a bit low, no-one suffering a major injury to a star. Saying this, if you change it, its a shoe-in that Carter or Semin gets a cruciate ligament injury and out for season

I agree with the colonel, shots are good but goals are a bit high! Otherwise I think that it has been a good season. The addition of waivers especially made roster management much more of a skill!

Re: Season 2 review and changes for season 3.
Im not sure what to think to be honest. Ive scored 50 more goals this season...great. Ive conceeded 30 more goals this seaon....not so great.
Im struggling to reach the points total I did last season and was eliminated a lot earlier than last season...not so great.
Having said all that, with 5 games left in the season, the conference i'm in is still up for grabs. Nobody has made the play-offs and seven teams still have a shout....great for the whole sim.
Still as enthusiastic about the game as I was on day one..Looking forward to next season already.
Thanks for all your hard work Homer, as well as all the rest of you guys+lady who do extra bits behind the scenes. Your efforts are very much appreciated.

Re: Season 2 review and changes for season 3.
Yeah, I concur - it's a bit of a goal fest and the goalies are truly awful...it doesn't seem to matter who plays in net. The farm seems a lot more realistic in this respect. Injuries for the pro side are still almost non-existent - I haven't needed to change my lines during the entire season!
My team has gone down hill from last year - and I did kind of expect that. I don't think it helped that all of my defence's defence stats nose-dived after the last re-rates. If that keeps happening then I don't think the Ducks will ever be anywhere near the play-offs. But hey, it's always been about the farm for me!

Re: Season 2 review and changes for season 3.
The biggest problem we face with injuries is that the vast majority of pro players are in the 90's for durability which means the only way to get injuries is to push the injury slider right the way up. Only problem is most of the farm guys are quite low so the farms would be decimated with injuries.
I am not sure really how to resolve this as no matter what I do someone will not like it. Only way I can see to resolve it is to bring down the durabilities of the guys in the pro but how do we decide how much and who is reduced?
Seems to be the consensus is that goal scoring needs to come down a bit. I will get a post up about that

Re: Season 2 review and changes for season 3.
Oh yeah...penalties. Always felt like there were a few too many PPs during a game and a glance at the penalty minute shows the leaders all have well over 200 minutes! Mike Commodore (Ducks) has 334!
Compare that with the NHL and also bear in mind that fighting majors are pretty minimal in the sim....it's a bit excessive!

Really? Maybe it is because everyone and his dog is my rival but it seems like I have an oddly large number of 'general fights' lol

I haven't done a count but it seems there aren't many fights - they only happen every few games. Maybe my guys are more like lovers. Now it may be because I'm a Duck fan but I almost expect at least one fight to break out during an NHL game. Either way...PIMs are high!
For example I had one of my last night opponents having 12 PP opportunities! 12! In all the games of hockey I've watched I don't think I've ever seen that many. It might happen once every blue moon but it's certainly not a common occurance. I regularly see teams in the sim pushing close to double figure PP/PKs. In reality it seems like 3 or 4 per game is the typical number of chances a team would have. 6 or more is high. 12 is one team having a disciplinary meltdown!

I think the rivals games go a bit overboard at times, but mainly because I seem to have to kill between 10 and 15 powerplays every time! My team are a bunch of heathens (*cough* Malone) though so I guess they deserve it. I do appreciate a good brawl, but it's the minors that keep adding up. The other week there were a couple of guys who got 5 minors for 5 different infractions in the same game which is a bit mental.

Haha I was going to mention commodore's 3 minors in the 2nd period of our game last night Ronnie! I have had quite a few games with 8-10 penalties for one team this year!

Looking at my whole roster it's only Commodore who has excessive figures. He's a one man penalty machine! He must have his own collection of porn mags in the penalty box to help pass the time as he's in there so much!

I'm pretty much the same - take Phaneuf and his unfair ejections/suspensions out of the equation and my teams PiM isn't too shocking. He just rubs people up the wrong way, obviously!

Re: Season 2 review and changes for season 3.
I've become a little disillutioned with my goon, Brendan Witt. I pay him to beat up people. Recently he has taken his eye off the ball and starting watching the puck.....He is scoring goals and adding assists...
This is not what I pay him for. IF HE THINKS THIS IS GOING TO GET HIM A PAY RISE....HE IS VERY MUCH MISTAKEN!!!!!

Yeah Penalties are kinda ridiculous at times. Sharks average 18 Pim's a game with only a few fights. Not to mention the time we had 65 Pim's over 2 games, not including a 10 for game misconduct

New poll up about PIM's and fighting! Thanks for the feedback everyone is giving.
Re: Season 2 review and changes for season 3.
I assume we are keeping the waivers procedure the same for season 3. I don't think it's been mentioned and I just want to be sure as it would deeply affect my tactics for said season
