A real barn burner at the Danish Bacon Pig Sty!
Arguably one of the biggest games of the season took place last night, as the Iowa Chops 'welcomed' their rivals the New York City Crunch to the Pig Sty. 21817 fans were in attendance for what was a truly exciting game of hockey.
The pure hatred between the two teams was plain to see, as 110 PIMs between the two teams is a new Sim-League record, and NYC's 65 was also a new league record. 5 fights in total, 2 of which involved Corey Perry, which saw him get beaten up by Devin Setoguchi and Mike Green, saw him thrown out of the game for instigating, and a 3 game ban handed out, which is a a huge blow to the Crunch.
Michael Ryder opened the scoring at 7.44 in the first, but the Crunch answered back with 2 goals in the first through Kopitar and Neal, who got his 39th of the year last night.
Then in the 2nd, Mike Green brought the game level on the powerplay, the leagues leading PP goalscorer lighting the lamp once again for his 34th goal of the year. Then at 14.33, Sheldon Souray took a high sticking minor, which could prove very costly to the Crunch, as it took the game to 3-2, Tomas Plekanec, getting his 20th of the year on the 5 on 4 man advantage.
Only 1 goal in the third, with Cory Murphy scoring to take the game to 4-2 to the Chops. The Crunch however wanted to send a message, as all 5 fights happened in the third period.
The implications of this game were huge. Beforehand, the Crunch were 4 points ahead of the Chops with a game in hand in the final playoff spot, so a win for them would have made it very tough for the Chops to pull it back. After this win, the Chops are only 2 points back, and with it all left to play for.
