Shawn Thornton, I thought you were better than that

So he slew-foots Orpik, knocks him to the ground and punches him unconscious. I hope he gets a lengthy suspension. There is no room for that kind of behavior in the NHL.

And don't give me that crap about how Orpik should have accepted Thornton's invitation to fight after the hit on Ericsson.

Oh, and Neal should have got more than five games for kneeing Marchand in the head. Dirty bastard.

This whole thing was just ridiculous. The game seemed to fade into insignificance and it was a case of 'What's going to happen next?'.

Neal could have avoided Marchand quite easily, and the injury could have been so much worse.

As for Thornton, it's a bit pathetic really, and not far off the Bertuzzi/Moore incident. After a hit that angered the recipient's team, someone challenges the guy who threw the hit to a fight. After declining, there is then a massive cheap shot that results in a bad injury and scary scenes with players being stretchered off the ice.

Crap like this is what will eventually tone down the physical aspect of the game, and drastically alter the way it is played. Thus is shall cease to be the game we all love.

2. The knee from Neal to Bergeron's head which is appalling - nice to see Saint Crosby tripped him to set it up
3. Thornton is a douche and if the Pens had gone back at him and I was his team mate I would have broken the code and let him take what was coming to him the scumbag

But that's the stupidity of it all. I'm not saying he's a saint, but he isn't known for pulling douche moves like that. He's always seemed pretty honourable, and I had a lot of respect for him and his role on the team. Not so much now.

The fact Neal didn't even get called for an in person hearing and as a result only received 5 games is the biggest joke in all this. 5 games might have been ok if this was his first offence but he has been suspended before and to come out and try to claim that he didn't see Marchand there? I smell bullshit..... at least Thornton had the balls to say he was wrong and regrets it.

Not wanting to belittle the Neal hit at all because it was filth, but apparently the NHLPA insisted that only suspensions from the last 18months be considered when dealing with past offences.

I know that is the case..... I just think that is a bullshit way of looking at it personally.

So Thornton's going to appeal against his 15 game suspension? He was bloody lucky it wasn't 20 games.
