2013 Offseason thread
Thought it'd be a good idea to have one big thread for all the goings on in the offseason.
@DarrenDreger: Boston and Dallas close on a deal sending Tyler Seguin to Stars for Loui Eriksson. Other parts involved as well.
Patrik Elias resigned for 3 years at $16.5m.

It's a bit of a shocker. All the rumours I've read say that young Tyler was a bit too fond of partying. Even during the playoffs.
Sorry to see him go though. He was a lot of fun to watch. And I'll miss Peverley too.

Anyone enjoying the prospect of Zetterberg Datsyuk and Alfredsson line?
Even for Wings haters (esp Driz), you have to admit that's going to be special.

Oh and Filpulla has gone to Tampa Bay on a 5yr deal. Equally, we replaced him with Stephen Weiss from the Panthers.

Re: 2013 Offseason thread
So Blues were in the running to sign (enter name as appropriate) and end up with LaPierre and the other bloke whose name I've forgotten....Whoopie do:!:
According to most Blues fans, anybody half decent either were too expensive, wanted too long a contract, or no better than what we have already got. Well Blues fans, when you throw away $3.25m on another contract for one of the invisible men (Patrick Berglund), i'm sure $6m for Weiss, $5m+ Iginla, Filippula and whatever for Horton or Briere, are an absolute steal.
To improve, we need to get better players - to get better players. We are not Detroit, Chicago or Boston - we need to pay slightly over the odds and offer slightly longer contracts. It's a slightly risky strategy, but it's what we have to do. Otherwise, we will be lucky to make the play-offs, let alone make them before falling at the first hurdle.
I deliberately haven't mentioned Derek Roy, we have agreed 'in principal' to sign him, but knowing the Blues....He'll go elsewhere.

So Seguin calls himself gay, and gets in trouble? OK then...

Re: 2013 Offseason thread
That really sounds like one of his mates got hold of his phone and put that. Still a bit silly of him to allow that to happen but who hasn't had a mate put something like that? (looking at you Monty )
Re: 2013 Offseason thread
Yep, I'm convinced that's what happened, but this is the third time he's got into hot water over something he's said on Twitter, so it's probably a good thing he's shut down his account.mc_homer wrote:That really sounds like one of his mates got hold of his phone and put that. The Boston press seem to be doing a pretty thorough hatchet job on him.

Re: 2013 Offseason thread
The St Louis Blues have a glut of C players, so I guess some have agreed to play on the wings. Roy, Lapierre, and Aucoin all joined recently.
As for Seguin, I think he's going to be one of those guys that has incredible talent, but is unfortunately a tool when off the ice. There are a lot of these in hockey I'm afraid. If you'd like examples, then look no further than Evander Kane.

Re: 2013 Offseason thread
Agreed on the Boston media. They seem to have a bug up their arse about him for sure.
To be perfectly honest, I couldn't care less about what he does off the ice as long as it doesn't affect his performance on it. Someone mentioned that while he only had 1 goal in the finals he led the team in shots? So doesn't sound like his lack of production there was for a lack of trying. He also added some key assists.
Long story short, bring on the season!

Re: 2013 Offseason thread
I really wish the Bruins had stuck with him for at least another season. Yeah, he's a bit of a knob off the ice, but he'll grow up eventually. Chicago stuck with Patrick Kane, who was the poster boy for badly behaved hockey players, and he's getting his act together now. As the Bruins know only too well

Re: 2013 Offseason thread
I hope he does, the Stars have staked a lot on him. But you have to take risks to be successful and I trust in Nill! Not to over look the Peverley pick up either, I think he will be solid for us.
I am sure you will love having Loui though! Maybe he will get a bit more recognition for his two way play in Boston.

Re: 2013 Offseason thread
Well seeing as everyone seems to be saying that Loui is a Bergeron clone, I'm very happy.
Seguin's going to be playing at center isn't he? That's going to be interesting to watch. It's his natural position, but the Bruins had more centers than they knew what to do with so he always played on the wing.

Re: 2013 Offseason thread
Yep he is expected to be our #1 Centre. The most exciting part of these moves for me is not getting Seguin or Peverley or Horcoff or even what Nichushkin might be able to do. No, the thing I am most looking forward to is putting Benn back on LW where he belongs! He can play as a decent centre but I think he will flourish back at his natural position.
The thing with Loui is that he is king of the little things that often go unnoticed. He is the guy that never gets out of positions, never takes bad penalties and always seems to be able to just get a stick in here or there to break things up. That and he can score 30+ goals. Goes about his business, doesn't bitch or moan and does all the things that fans who have more than a passing interest will notice.

Just my type of player!
Can't remember if it was Puck Daddy or DGB last week who said that Eriksson was so under-rated he was in danger of becoming over-rated.
