Pedantic and proud!
But The Times can sod off as far as I'm concerned. My writing is littered with Oxford commas.

I love correct grammar. And yes, I'm a complete Nazi about it.
Most of the time, I'll let it slide, but sometimes there are posts on here that make me cringe. It takes everything in me to stop myself posting corrections.

Re: CJ in the News!
Since this thread started I've found myself subconciously using the oxford comma.

I refuse to retweet anything that has incorrect spelling or dodgy grammar.
However, I split infinitives with abandon. And start sentences with "and".

That was a tricksy little quiz. I got 9. Couldn't work out if Hilary was a lass or a dude.

Well that was my point. I don't think for certain you can. I'm giving myself 8.

Then we all assume a big fat zero then...
It was difficult though. One of the answers was a pure guess as I'd never even heard of the word before. I believe my basic grammar isn't too bad but I think that kind of level of knowledge as found in the quiz, is starting to take things a bit too anally. Some mistakes can really jar in certain situations but for example in this kind of environment i.e. a messageboard, then a fairly lax attitude towards spelling and grammar is the way to go. People that correct others really need to take a long hard look at themselves.

Joking aside, I know I can be totally anal about grammar and spelling, but I would never, ever correct anyone on here. I like you all far too much to do that. Random strangers on other messageboards who piss me off, are fair game though.
And to be honest, I'm quite embarrassed that I know what a gerund is.
And to bring it back to hockey.... Shouldn't it be the Toronto Maple Leaves??

6/10 for me. Having studied languages for my degree I am disappointed in myself. I do find it interesting seeing how other countries focus on grammar from a very early age. In the UK I feel it is glossed over in our education. This is why so many Europeans are better at English than we are!

Gerund. That was the word that I learnt. It'll be forgotten by tomorrow though.
And no, Leafs is correct! I'm not sure of the correct rules but suspect it's down to Maple Leaf in this context being a proper noun.

No - during the regular season it is the Toronto Maple Leafs. During the Playoffs, it is the Toronto Maple Leaves for the Golf Course.

I got 5
I suck at the English, so I'm happy with that score.
