Yeah, but before i had hope, we were always only a few points off the playoffs.
But with no Kipper, and our inability to win more then once a week (unless we play the Stars) were looking like a lottery team this year. Even Iggy can't score!

Re: Fan identity crisis
You just need to get on the phone with Bettman and have him arrange for the Flames to move to a division with the Stars and play 82 games with us.....you will be a lock then
Re: Fan identity crisis
I've come to the conclusion I'm at fault for the Habs bad year last season. Just after I chose to support them they made the playoffs and went 2-0 up vs Boston but then they eventually lost in seven games, then last season they have the worst season in franchise history aaaand now I decide to flirt with other teams and they're playing really well.

My choice of the Stars was simply because it was the first team I knew about. The first game I saw a glimpse of on TV was the Stars (North Stars at the time) and I knew of them from the Mighty Ducks movies so when playing hockey games on the mega drive I always chose the Stars and it kinda grew from there!
Not sure you can force a team because of reasons that have little to do with the team. Surely you already tried that when you picked the Habs?
Mike Modano and Basil Macrae will not win Oscars, but they won a few fans!

Don't shoot me! I think I'm gonna stick with the Habs. I started supporting them the same way Matt picked the Stars. The connection will grow rather than forcing an NY connection to go with my existing Giants/Mets love.
Once again, don't shoot me. You were all right. I couldn't force the feelings for an NY area team.

I think you have made a wise choice.

I'm getting that feeling again. Do you know how hard it is to feel attached to a team whose Gamecenter broadcasts consist of the game and nothing else. Makes you lose interest in staying up when you're watching the "The game will return soon" screen half the night.

YEAH CAUSE THE DEVILS ARE DOING SO WELL IN THE PLAYOFFS AT THE MOMENT

Well all teams will have that on gamecenter it is not particular to the Habs so that is a bad reason to quit on them. Perhaps you should just try being a neutral for a while and see if a team comes to you rather than forcing it.

Oh I hadn't noticed. Are they in a series with the Flyers?

Mostly every team has a short pre game build up and intermission reports. Habs broadcasts go from puck drop to buzzer, then the screen, then puck drop to buzzer, and so on. They don't even show adverts during ad breaks.
I don't know how it is for other Canadian teams but I know this isn't the case the US teams.
I'll be watching tonight. I'm not just gonna give up trying straight away. Although the only game won in the series is the one I didn't stay up for.
Re: Fan identity crisis
Oh boohoo my team I wanted to support suck so I'll support the Habs, they are doing quite well...
Oh wait, they are losing a series? To Ottawa? Better switch...
Just pick a team. Stop Switching.
And yeah, missing the playoffs for the 2nd time in 20 years.... such a crippling shame.... I don't know how I can live with it... Better switch to support the Kings.

You should. They're 3-2 up now!
Didn't you jump around until you finally stuck on Philly?
Re: Fan identity crisis
Have you tried swithching between the home and away feed (not the soap)? Often one of them has the intermission crap.
Personally, i just watch the games the next day. Sitting through two hours of Yanks screaming at me to buy their stuff is just too much.
The Rink is covered with ads.
The scoreboard at the top of the screen has a sponsor.
The commentators name drop every brand in existance.
We have to go to an ad break everytime the puck goes out of play.
Intermission lasts longer then the actual period.

Now the glass behind the goal has ads
And then when it comes to European hockey, the yanks complain that the European jerseys have 'too many ads'...........

I know the advert line is stupid. I was just using it as an example that you can't even watch ads instead end up staring at this blank screen. I know it's trivial but if you're gonna stay up late to watch your team you'd surely prefer a couple of guys talking about that team and a few interviews and interactions with players and staff. You seriously lose interest in between periods. Yanks trying to sell you things is the better option than that bloody screen. If you'd rather sleep than wait for the whole intermission of staring at nothing then that's probably not the team for you.
Jonzee - I'm not gonna lie. I do like the Devils.

Those are expencive seats too! I would be supprised if they didn't get a lot of fans complaining about the view being restricted.
MockingJay: I completely understand your point. In general the number of stoppages ruins the flow of the game. It is hard to keep interest when only 30% of what your watching is actual hockey. Unfortunatly it's the same with every team.

The stoppages are fine. I understand everyone has them. It's what they put in the gaps that's the problem.
Re: Fan identity crisis
God the stoppages are annoying. Take last night. the Bruins and Leafs actually played for 73 minutes. I had to endure 3 and half hours of coverage. I wouldn't mind so much if it was 7pm-10.30pm but midnight to half 3 in the morning. I struggle these days and so probably only watch about 20 live games in the regular season now. You kind of get used to it after a while though by devising distraction techniques, throw in a beer/loo run between periods or a game of tetris....

Re: Fan identity crisis
I only ever watch early afternoon games that start in the evening over here. Flames games tend to still be in the 3rd period when i have to leave for work so i can't watch anyway.
It was Saturdays game between the Caps & NYR the got me. 60 minutes with no goals and then the realisation that there is a full intermission before OT instead of the usual couple of minutes during the regular season.

Can't watch afternoon games as Leafs don't play any. Not one this season. Dead annoying.
