Victory bow out to Beefs
Going in to game 6 needing a win to keep the series alive Chatham came up short.
Buff made some astonishing changes to the roster ahead of the game. The ill-disciplined James Wisniewski, Jack Johnson and Dennis Siedenberg joined Mark Stuart in the press box making way for the young trio of Mark Pysk, Bart Crashley and Lance Pitlick. Jonny Boychuk joined Colin White on the third line whilst Dennis Wideman and captain Andy Greene kept their places. It now looks like a ludicrous decision by Buff felt the defence could not have got any worse this series and the gamble had to be made. He also called upon veterans Saku Koivu and Owen Nolan, who as it would turn out was playing the last game of his illustrious franchise career before retiring. There was to be no fairytale ending however though not through a lack of effort on the ice.
The Victory led heading into the third period by a two goal margin and things looked promising. The trend this season between the two teams had been for the Beefs to take the lead and for the Victory to fight back so for the team to be in this position was very encouraging. However the Beefs had other ideas. Four goals in the final period turned the game around and dumped the Victory out of the competition.
The Chatham management would like to take the opportunity to congratulate the Beefs on a very much deserved series victory.
