Metric hasn't reached here yet. It's very confusing.

Parking, Reverse, Neutral, Drive, and what the hell is L? And why do you need Park anyway, surely you do this in Reverse or Drive? Get a bloody manual transmission and stop being a Yank!

Not my car I'm afraid. It's my mate's new car.
And it's nigh on impossible to get a manual here. Though I almost wish I did drive one because according to a numbskull I work with, 'chicks who drive sticks' are hotter than those who drive automatics. I don't think he believed me when I informed him that most women in the UK drive manuals. I think he equated being able to use a gear stick as something akin to rocket science or brain surgery. Muppet.

You didn't explain what L is for. Or Park for that matter. Therefore I will assume that my assumption that they are redundant is correct.

L is for Ludicrious Speed. (Watch Spaceballs)
Park is for Off-road driving, or as the Americans call them, parks.

I confess I had to look up what L stands for because my car doesn't have that option. It's first gear (Low) and locks the transmission so you can wreck the engine trying to go at Leafy's ludicrous speeds.
P or Park enables the driver to perform high speed doughnuts on a baseball field.
