I will say the Pacific has been a lot weaker this year than in previous years but would count this an odd one out when you look at the history of it.
But as Jonzee likes to say, haters gonna hate
Very true, Homer. I just looked at the stats on nhl.com and took them at face value - I can't be arsed to dig any deeper into them. For me a SO win or loss is hollow and really the game itself was actually a tie.
That said I'd like to point out not a single Atlantic opponent managed to beat the Ducks in regulation this season...

Re: The Dallas Stars up and down season
I would rather be in the running that spend a season just waiting for a 'good pick'. Seeing as our 5th rounders have progressed faster than our 1st rounders recently I would say it makes little difference

As would I, Homer. At the end of the day it's a reward for incompetence. However a top 5 pick is fairly likely to make an immediate and positive impact to the team so in the Ducks position I'm more than happy for them to put little or no effort in for their two remaining fixtures.

This, except substitute Ducks for Leafs.

Meh, the Flames aren't nearly bad enough to deserve a high pick. And besides they're playing the Ducks in one of the remainding games so I expect Iggy and his team mates to be thoroughly professional...

Iggy and his team mates stoped playing hockey several weeks ago.

The Flames? Hahahaha they are not even in the same league as the Leafs. Poor Calgary are some 8 points off the pace

Re: The Dallas Stars up and down season
But the thingis buff, is if you keep finishing in the lottery positions and getting top draft picks, eventualy you will have a good team and will make the playoffs. The Flames are avoiding the playoffs and the lottery picks so we can continue to suck for longer. Were just simply doing it better then the other teams.
(obiously the oilers don't count, what with thier lottery pick every year and them still sucking)

Steady. This is the Leafs we're talking about here. They must and indeed do suck at all times. I think it's covered by one of Isaac Newton's laws of physics. One of the obscure ones in the back somewhere.

The only problem here, is even if we take the 1st overall, Burkie will pick up Hank Chunky-Mitts, a six foot nine grinder instead of Yakupov, Grigorenko or Forsberg. Thus we will still miss the playoffs, get another high first rounder, which we can give to Boston for the Bear, thinking he would make a 'good 2-way power forward'...

Re: The Dallas Stars up and down season
Here is the Leafs recent first round drafting:
2011: Tyler Biggs (22) & Stuart Percy (25). Boston drafted Dougie Hamilton (9) with our original pick
2010: Nothing. Boston drafted Tyler Seguin (2) with our original pick
2009: Nazem Kadri (7)- what a reach!
2008: Luke Schenn (5). Nashville drafted Colin Wilson (7) with our original pick
2007: Nothing. St Louis drafted Lars Eller (13) with our original pick
2006: Jiri Tlusty (13)
We could have conceivably drafted Hamilton, Seguin, Paajarvi, Schenn, and Eller over the past 5 years and only really lost Kessel. So yeah finishing around the basement door doesn't mean much when management are pretty inept.
