The Chatham Victory stood pat at the trade deadline making no further moves following the departure of former captain Rob Scuderi for a second and a third round pick last week.

Grand Master Buff was rumoured to be torn between selling and buying at the deadline. The Victory are 6 points back off the Chops but with two games in hand and are 4 points back from the Beef having played a game more. The romantics said push for the franchise’s first ever pro play-off appearance. The pragmatists said consolidate for the future. In the end Buff was able to achieve neither. But it was not for want of trying.

Fabled son Dany Heatley and the entire MK roster were linked with moves to Chatham but ultimately nothing materialised. Buff did admit however that one deal was very close:

“I had been working on a deal for some days with a colleague. It would have meant some serious building blocks coming our way for the future. We came to agreement only a few hours before the deadline but a misunderstanding about a pick meant that all the hard work unravelled in seconds.”

Having invested so much time in the ultimately doomed deal there was no room to work on anything else and the day passed without a whimper.
