After missing out on a number of elite blue-liners recently Chatham Victory general Manager, Buff, traded for big scoring defenseman Dennis Wideman. The cost, power-forward Nathan Horton. Centre Tim Connolly and puck mover Marc-Andre Bergeron were also sacrificed with Jarret Stoll, Mikkel Boedker and James van Riemsdyk moving the other way.

“I felt we had the depth up top to make this move. Tim, whilst a long custodian [he leaves Vermette as the sole skater left at the franchise since Buff’s appointment] and a point getter couldn’t play the minutes and was a liability in the face-off circle. Nathan for all his goals was like Marc and very inconsistent putting together some fantastic spells with some horrendous dry runs. These moves help balance our roster which will hopefully lead to more consistent performances. We are especially excited to see what Dennis can add in both zones.”

It rounds out a busy week for the Victory and Pirates who earlier traded Lauri Korpikoski, Andrew Cogliano and a 2nd and 4th round pick for Fabien Brunnstrom and Nazem Kadri.

“We needed scoring down at the Pirates. Owen [Nolan] has been hit by injuries a couple of times this year so Fabian and Nazem (21), as well as JVR (22) will add significant firepower to the Portsmouth roster and along with Mikkel [Boedker] (21) gives us a young crop of forwards to work with at both pro and farm level.”
