The NHL are beginning to announce the awards shortlists so I will post them up here for people to argue/debate over....

Re: Awards watch
Calder is really tough and despite him being a Hab and me being a big Huber fan I think Gallagher is my winner.
Norris for me is easier, Letang. Bets all-round D-man in the league bar none.

Plus Letang doesn't go in for those stupid blue line hits at the board that leave your defense partner outnumbered.
Re: Awards watch
Best D-man is clearly Oliver Lauridsen, as well as best rookie and MVP.

Re: Awards watch
Easily Gallagher for the Calder. He contributer the most to his teams success for me. Chicago would have walked it without Saad, and the Panthers would have sucked just as much without Huberdeau.
Can't argue with Letang for the Norris. Hes been consistenetly one of the best D for a while now. I will give Suter some credit though, a lot of players struggle to live up to the hype after signing big money contracts, but thats not a reason to win it.

No Steve Mason? Robbery. Just like Mason robbing everyone who shoots at him.

Re: Awards watch
Calder: Gallagher as much as i hate to say it. Played well for the habs during the regular season and ain't gone missing in the play-offs.
Although would Cory Conacher of made the list had he stayed in tampa?
Norris: NO LIDSTROM!!! whats he planning
Vezina: Give it to Bobrovsky just to see the look on Paul holmgrens face

Re: Awards watch
Uhm, Buf... JtS is 23, and was 4 pts off setting his career high pts totals, in just over half a season. I'd have traded that for Bob alone, never mind getting Steve Mason who is gonna be 25 in a few weeks and played out his skin in front of a pretty shitty D. (1.9 GAA, .944 sv)

Re: Awards watch
Did either of them get nominated for their respective awards?
<insert Jonzee response here, followed by Buff's next point below>
Columbus went from 15th-9th on the back of Bob
Phildelphia went from 5th-10th...

Calder - None listed are worthy. Brian Lashoff.
Norris - None listed are worthy. Nick Lidstrom.
Vezina - None listed are worthy. Felix Potvin.

Re: Awards watch
Of course they didn't, Buf. Everyone hates Philly.
I'd have loved Bob back before we got Mason (and he showed he can be amazing). But we haven't had an amazing goalie for years and still (normally) make the playoffs, so, yeah, I'll take Jake the Snake playing with Claude Giroux.
Can't change the past.

Jeff Carter?
I realise it wasn't exactly a fairytale for 'Lumbus but I think we can class him as a pretty decent player.

I left him off because he is no longer in Columbus. Suppose I should add in Jack Johnson, tho...

Re: Awards watch
Crosby for the Lindsay, even after missing the end of the season.
Ovi for the Hart. Although Tavares is a very close 2nd! When Ovi came back to form the Caps transformation was huge. Tavares was a big part of the Islanders making the playoffs, but I think Naby was equaly as important for the Islanders.
