This last season in college football one of the biggest stories of the year was Notre Dame LB Manti Te'o. In September he lost his 72-year-old Grandmother and just 6 hours later his girlfriend died too. But here's where it gets interesting. Deadpsin are reporting it was all a hoax and that Te'o's girlfriend, Lennay Kekua a supposed Stanford student, never even existed to begin with. There's no student records of her or any record of her birth or death.

The story starts in 2009 when the "couple" "met" in Palo Alto outside the stadium after Stanford beat Te'o's Fighting Irish 45-38. In very early 2012 they became an exclusive couple and shortly after this in late January she was involved in a serious car accident. Whilst recovering in hospital the doctors discovered she had Leukaemia and in June has a successful bone marrow transplant and all seems well. During the summer she took a turn for the worst before again miraculously recovering so well that on September 10th she is released from hospital. The next day Te'o's Grandmother, Annette Santiago, dies and is shortly followed by Lennay. On September 15th Te'o plays for Notre Dame against Michigan State and records 12 tackles leading them to a 20-3 upset. Seven days later Lennay is buried but Te'o doesn't go insisting she'd want him to play. Te'o intercepts two passes and the Fighting Irish upset Michigan 13-6.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This story was the most emotional story in sports last season and it could very well be all fabricated by Manti Te'o who needs serious help if this is made up. His draft stock is going to take a massive hit after this story coming out. What's even worse was that he ended up almost winning the Heisman Trophy on the back of so many brilliant performances under so much emotional stress. If he made it all up he's got a massive imagination and I can't even begin to think of why somebody would make up something like this.

Notre Dame and Te'o released a statement last night. He claims he never met Lennay in person but here's where it gets even stranger. Cardinals fullback Reagan Mauia claims she is real and he met her in 2009 in Samoa. Mauia said he was introduced to Kekua by Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, the man whom the original report regarding the hoax suggests had a role in the creation of the phony persona. Mauia believes Kekua’s mother operates her Twitter account, and Mauia disagreed with the suggestion that Kekua doesn’t exist.

This is getting very strange.

If you think AJ McCarron’s girlfriend winning Miss Alabama was impressive, Manti Te’o’s girlfriend won Miss Narnia!

Another twist? Why not? http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/01/17/two-days-after-learning-of-hoax-teo-said-girlfriend-died-of-cancer/

ND Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick says Te'o found out it was a hoax on December 6th. Despite Te'o saying “I don’t like cancer at all. I lost both my grandparents and my girlfriend to cancer,” on December 8th, while talking to reporters in advance of the Heisman Trophy ceremony.

Apparently one of the hoaxers called Te'o on Dec 6th and said Lennay was still alive but he went on and spoke as if he was still unaware. So this story gets more and more confusing everyday.

Whether someone has hoaxed him or if he was behind it it's quite clear that Te'o may have actually developed real feelings for this non-existant girl.
