Norris trophy (aka Lidstrom trophy)

Someone please explain to me how Chara, Lidstrom and Weber are the nominations for the Norris when Lidstrom was a minus and a certain Vishnovsky led the league in scoring among defenders to go along with a +18. I can't believe I am defending the guys non selection but someone tell me how this is?

The same reason why Lundqvist wasnt given a Vezina nomination , and Luongo was the league just picks the big names and the names they think the majority want to see

Lubo plays for a non-Eastern non-Original 6 team which isn't going to help for starters. On top of that he isn't a "big" name player. Players who play well and get wider recognition can tend to live of that reputation even if their current performances don't merit the praise. I heard Bill Clement saying the other day what a terrific series Rinne had had against the Ducks...lol! He was actually very ordinary and the stats will back that up. But Rinne is marque goaltender and gets a pat on the back. It's the same reason the likes of Doughty gets in the All-Star team ahead of Visnovsky too. On the positive side being away from the spot-light is a nice selling point in attracting playings to California.

That's because the West is so overwhelming awesome! Seriously, it seems to me that the Eastern conference does tend to receive more exposure - and given the clubs which play in it and their big markets it isn't surprising. Or perhaps I'm being paranoid?!

Yandle and Buff didnt get one either...surely they should have been in contention

I wouldnt give the norris to buff, the victory's defense is far too leaky

I am honoured to accept Punk's Norris nominaion of myself. As reward for this nomination the owners of Weber, Lidstrom and Chara must now transfer these players onto my roster.

Taking my Ducks hat off for a moment - this is a trophy for d-men and perhaps there should be at least an element of defensive capability in a winner. Anyone who has seen Lubo play will know he's all about offence: cracking shot from the blue line and a terrific PP quarter-back. Chara, Weber and Lidstrom are fantastic all-round players tbf. That said, I imagine Lubo can feel a little hard done by not to at least be nominated.

One of the stats they like to throw about for defensive play is +/-. One of the Norris nominations just happens to be on the wrong side of that category yet still gets nominated.

and it was only a couple of years ago that it was mike green and drew doughty nominated and whilst i can't speaktoo confidently about doughty (though it appeared from the media that he was mostly about offense) green at that point was extremely offense-orientated (which was supposed why he wasn't picked for the olympics) so it seems a bit inconsistent from the league

The award always has and always will be offensively orientated. Shame it is also a popularity contest really.

Lubo is pretty shoddy at defensive play - that wouldn't do him many favours here.

Chara's going to win it, because if he doesn't, then the judges are going to find themselves getting up close and personal with the nearest available stanchion.

(Seriously though, Weber gets my vote and I was also surprised that Vishnovsky didn't get a nomination).

Weber shouldn't even be in the nomination if you ask me....

The Vezina is voted for by the 30 General Managers

I was amazed that Chara was nominated myself. He's had a good season, but not GREAT - Visnovsky has had a great season, as has Keith Yandle, as has Kris Letang...

Well look who it is! Congratulations on last night.

I would say if the nominations were Visnovsky, Yandle and Letang I would have understand that a lot more than the current nominees.
