New NHL divisions solved

North East as you were
Atlantic +Washington, -Pittsburgh
Central +Pittsburgh, -Nashville
South East +Nashville +Dallas, -Washington -Winnipeg
North West +Winnipeg, -Colorado
Pacific +Colorado

Put that into Google maps and you will see how well that works geographically. Rivalries still work, you don't have to be in the same division for a rivalry to work anyway.

Can't believe I didn't think of this sooner. Anywho the NHL will be announcing this once they have completed the paperwork for Kyle Wellwood's dinner bill.

How else do you think I came up with this list? I just kept pushing 'randomise' until I got the result I wanted

If that was the proposed realignment, I would have no problem with it.

I actually think what I have come up with is better than the current arrangements and only involves 7/30 teams moving on a merry-go-round.

I would take that although I do prefer being in a division with Chicago and Minnesota than Florida and Tampa.

My main issue from the Stars point of view is the time zones. That and me having to stay up til 3am for a big chunk of games

Yes, but in my division you might actually qualify for the play-offs

Also, your division would only be across two time zones with you and Nashville in Central and Carolina, Florida and Tampa in Eastern, as opposed to your current situation of three time zones

Like I said I wouldn't say no to that but I would much rather watch the Hawks and Wild than Panthers and Lightning

I am sure the Pens and Flyers & the Wings and Leafs would like to be in the same division as well but I can't solve it all Well unless we scrap divisions and conferences and everyone gathers on the local pond on a Sunday to play round-robins

Whatever happens, there will be geographically local teams in different divisions.

Detroit is 3hrs away from Chicago (I know because I drove it last week), and yet it is also very nearby Toronto. Detroit being in a different division (and a different conference) from Toronto was very annoying, as those games are utterly awesome. However, now we're missing out on regular Blackhawks games, which also sucks, so whichever way you look at it, there are pro's and con's.

Detroit-Toronto games are pretty epic. I still consider the Wings a top 3 rival along with the Habs and Sens. Sorry Flyers, Kings, Bruins, Sabres, Flames, Oilers, Nucks et al
