Mixed emotions for Shamrocks fans after the conclusion of the playoffs. The pro players have been playing golf for awhile now, after being eliminated in the 1st round against a strong Iowa Chops team. It seems the all-in strategy has failed at least this year. Thankfully the core of the team is on the edge of their prime and should be competitive at least while Mark Streit remains on the blue-line.
While many of the teams blue-chip prospects were dealt in an attempt to boost the pro team it didn't seem to slow down the Leprechauns down as they won the farm playoffs.
Many thought they would bow out respectably to the favourite Baby Beefs but that was not the case. After a difficult first round the Leprechauns sailed to the championship finishing the 2nd round and finals in 10 games.
As a sign that the future is still bright for the Shamrocks look no further than game 4 and 5 of the final. While one was a complete blow-out 10-3 win the championship game was 1-0 win. The star of the Leprechauns run was Patrik Sievy, he has clearly benefited from great competition with Scott Wedgewood over the years and is likely to challenge for a spot with the pro team next year as they seek to solve the goal-tending uncertainty that dogged the team throughout end of the regular season and playoffs.
