Beefs hope to get tougher.
Following the Beefs move for Sergei Gonchar last month they made the move to bring in agitator and tough guy Steve Ott moving Curtis Glencross over to the Knights of Columbus. Doug Murray also came across in the trade that saw Nick Grossman head over to the KoC.
The change brought upon a few roster moves that saw a slight shuffling of the lineup in an attempt to create the cap room needed to clear Edler's return to the full team. 'Edler going to the Baby Beefs was never an indication of his play or what we had in mind for Alex' said Beefs GM Homer. 'The move to bring in Gonchar gave us some tough decisions to stay under the cap and the only move possible without a trade/waivers was to send down Edler'.
With Ott brought in to strengthen the wing and give an extra forward who is capable of scoring the choice was made to send Marcel Goc through waivers in order to bring Edler back. The move now arguably gives the Beefs one of the best mobile defensive units in the league with Keith, Gonchar, Edler, Gilbert, Rivet and Meyer all capable of helping in the offensive side of things while Zanon continues to stifle the opposition by blocking shots and making strong defensive plays.
The hope is that Ott can bring a different element to the Beefs that they have been lacking in as he can throw the body. If this can help keep the Beefs in a playoff spot then the loss of Glencross will be more than worth it. The Beefs are in a very tough fight for top of their division as they trail the rival Buttercups by 3 points however a huge couple of wins over the rival Badgers gave them a little bit more breathing room behind them. Considering the Badgers held a 4-1-0 advantage over the Beefs the last 2 wins pulls the Beefs record against them up to 3-2-2 with one more game to play.
The Beefs have a few days break before 2 very big games against the Crunch and the Shamrocks. Both teams are currently in playoff positions however the Beefs have played very well against the Crunch so far this season going 4-1-0 with one game to play. The Shamrocks however have been a tougher nut to crack as the Beefs only own a 2-3-0 record against them with the last game going in the shamrocks favour by a shocking score of 6-2. These two games are the last chance the Beefs will have to directly impact the standings against 2 of the teams they are battling with.
