Beefs weekly recap

Going into the Christmas break leading the Division and only 2 pts behind the Conference leader with a game in hand sounds like a position that any team would be happy with yet the Beefs feel that not everything is quite right yet.

The last week saw some mixed fortunes for the Beefs but was largely a successful one going 3-1-0 in the last week. They got some big results beating the Crunch for the 2nd time as well as the Nottingham Penguins and Watford Capitals however were left with a sour taste in the mouth after being shut out by the Boston Shamrock's to the score of 4-0.

Individually the week saw some good points with Kipper improving his play somewhat and Keith getting in the goal column. However Iginla had another poor week putting away just one assist and neither he or Kipper are at the level Homer expects of the pair and rumours are starting to spin about them being shopped for a trade.

After a slow start, star defender Duncan Keith put away 4 goals and 3 assists in the last 4 games to move him up to the team lead in pts. A huge improvement over the initial 5 assists over 7 games to open the season. Last weeks best forward Milan Michalek cooled off over the last week however putting away just a pair of assists after exploding out of the gates with 10 pts in his first 7 games.

The Beefs three stars of the first week
  1. Duncan Keith - 4 goals and 3 assists for 7 pts in 4 games leads all Beefs players and moves hm to a 4 way tie for team lead.
  2. Dany Heatley - 2 goals and 3 assists also tie Heatley for the team lead. Also learning how to throw the body with 18 hits so far.
  3. Paul Stastny - a goal and 3 assists join Stastny to the 4 way team lead tie. Also kept to a +3 in a poor weak for most players.

Baby Beefs weekly recap
Once again a complete mirror of the pro teams record this week as the Baby Beefs went 1-3-0 and remain rooted to the bottom of the Conference. They have never been blown out but are not doing enough to win despite the strong play of Brian Elliott. The young goalie has a 3-4-0 record but has a .911 sv% and 2.10 GAA which although is a drop from the previous week it is still very strong play given the team in front of him.

Further strong performance from defensive pairing Sekera and Girardi see them tied for the team lead with 8 pts through 11 games. A much stronger week from Blake Comeau sees him put away 2 goals and 2 assists in the last week yet his -6 is a sign of how rough the games have been of late. Another monster week in the hit column sees McLeod clock up 45 hits on the season however the coach would like to see a bit more scoring from the young winger as he only has a single goal so far after putting up 43 points in 66 games last season.

The Baby Beefs three stars of the first week
[list=1][*]Brian Elliott - Keeping the team in games but needs a little more help from the forwards.
[*]Andrej Sekera - 3 goals and 1 assist top a strong offensive week for the defender moving him to the top of the scoring chart.
[*]Blake Comeau - 2 goals and 2 assists sees him keep pace with the two team leaders.
