Beefs first entry draft Empty Beefs first entry draft

Post by mc_homer Thu Nov 25, 2010 12:17 am

Yesterday saw the 606HL's very first entry draft and with the Beefs recent playoff victory they sat at the bottom of the pile in terms of draft order. Despite this the Beefs still managed to nab one of the top offensive defenders in the pool in Cam Fowler, in fact considering the Beefs are fairly deep on D already they surprised many by taking 2 defenders with their first 3 picks in the first 2 rounds. 'We felt we needed more offensive minded guys at the back end as most of our defensive depth involves stay at home guys.' said GM Homer. The Beefs did however address one farm need on offense by taking Austin Watson with their second selection.

Here then is a run down of each of the Beefs selections this year.

First round 20th overall: Cam Fowler D, USA.
Cam is future elite offensive defender. His strengths are his skating and ability to jump up into the play and score from the point making him a valuable addition down the line to the Beefs powerplay. He is also very good with the puck and still defensively responsible.

Second round 35th overall: Austin Watson RW, USA.
Watson is one of those rare forwards who knows both how to bury the puck and help out in his own end. He is equally capable of putting up good numbers on the PP as well as helping out with the PK which makes him extremely useful as he develops. His only real weakness are his playmaking skills but these are minor gripes considering his strengths.

Second round 40th overall: David Rundblad D, SWE.
Another offensively minded defender, not as good in his own end as Fowler but an excellent puck handler and very good defender. Will be very good and getting the puck out of his zone quickly and settings guys up for breakaways. As mentioned he could use some work in the defensive zone but overall a future powerplay quarterback.

Third round 60th overall: Dan Delisle LW, USA.
An extremely big very physical forward and one of the best checkers in the draft. Very strong but needs work in other areas.

Fourth round 64th overall: Mattias Lindstrom LW, SWE.
Very similar build and style to Delisle, however a big lighter.

Fifth round 100th overall: Brandon Pirri C, CAN.
Very small but a decent skater and best of all he makes us think of Nandos.
