New Season, New Beginnings
After coming off what was a lackluster performance in the Preseaon, the Swansea Sharks have gotten themselves off to a roaring start in Season 4. Patrick 'Patty' Marleau and Alex 'Ovie' Ovechkin have continued their dominance that brought home the coveted King's Cup last season. Their 'rapid-fire' offence has seen scoreboard ratchet up so quickly that they have twice fused causing blackouts across major metropolitan areas.
But the real story is how the Sharks have responded to last season's weaknesses in defence and discipline. Young sensation Jake Allen has built on his rookie year by providing an ever more impressive shot blocking ability, while Cristobal Huet put up a brickwall in front of the Sharks' net, despite 606HL regulations. Penalties are also no longer a factor as new coach Paul Maurice has made discipline his number 1 priority. The dark days of Season 2, when Brandon Dubisnky would regularly attempt murder are now nothing more than distant memories and bitter rivals are now dealt with through embarrassing score lines rather than weaponised hockey sticks. Newly acquired defensive forwards have also shown their quality by turning the Sharks' PK into a force to be reckoned with, rather than a farce to be ridiculed.
All in all, things are looking up for the Sharks, which unlike dogs actually can look up.
