Top 10 forwards in terms of providing least production for most money.
Interesting run of tweets from capgeek who have compiled a top ten of the worst value for money forwards over the last 3 seasons. Their criteria was must earn minimum of $2m and have played at least 100 games.
1A. Chris Drury $7m, 93 pts in 182 games
1B. Scott Gomez $7.3m, 155 pts in 235 games
2. Brian Rolston $5m, 103 pts in 209 games
3. Samuel Pahlsson $2.65m, 54 pts in 226 games
4. Rostislav Olesz $3.125, 55 pts in 159 games
5. Ryan Smyth $6.25m, 159 pts in 226 games
6. Vincent Lecavalier $7.7m, 191 pts in 224 games
7. Shawn Horcoff $5.5m, 116 pts in 204 games
8. Thomas Vanek $7.1m, 190 pts in 224 games
9. Dany Heatley $7.5m, 218 pts in 244 games
10. Mike Fisher $4.2m, 121 pts in 239 games
Interesting how the top 2 were signed in the first free agency after the salary cap and people said then the contracts were stupid. Not sure why they put Drury and Gomez like that though!

Nice to see no Wings in that list.
Also interesting is that Lecavalier, Vanek, Heatley, Gomez and Drury are all over $7m, and therefore have got to be top players getting the majority of ice time. Thus they don't have the excuse of not being on the ice long enough to make an impact.

Exactly and precisely the reason why teams should be careful in free agency. No player is a guaranteed thing and with the cap and rule changes to create a faster game the younger players are becoming more and more valuable. Signing a player to a high priced contract because of his previous points is becoming increasingly risky.
I think some GM's get blinded by the names in front of them *cough*Sather*cough*
