Is Shanahan fucking high????
Fair enough this hit by Nolan is borderline but to compare it with the examples of a legal hard hit and an illegal hit he chooses makes it look like Nolan deserves a suspension. There's so many illegal hits he could choose to show that makes this look good but he picks one that's almost identical.

Meh I actually agree with Shanaban on this one..... They chose similar hits to show the subtle differences they look for in legal/illegal hits. In this case you could see the player lead with his elbow in the Blues hit which Nolan didn't do.
I am now going to go wash my mouth out with soap for defending a Kings player....

The thing that annoys me the most is that Nolan does lift into it and he does hit the head. Shanahan is trying to make us believe the head jerks back because of a hit to the chest and that Nolan stays on the ice.
I don't really care but he could have done a much better job reasoning why there's no suspension. I'd like to see it from the other side but that's not an option.

I think a lot of people now just assume that if a player gets hurt then it is an illegal hit. Too many players these days skate around as if its a non contact sport and don't protect themselves. The Nolan hit is perfectly fine.
The problem is one the NHL have created for themselves. Understandably, they want to target headshots, and have made a lot of fuss about it recently. Unfortunately these things a rarely black and white and invite criticism and controversy. How often do you see a disciplinary hearing where even the majority of people agree on the decision.

Totally agreed J-iggy. The NHL has managed to successfully turn around public opinion to the point where you almost have to prove that every hit WASN'T a bad one. That Nolan hit was a good open ice hit. What's the saying..... keep your head up.

Watching the vid, Klesla is dumb enough to have his head down and he gets nailed open-ice.
That's nobody else's fault but Klesla's.
